Song of Love

© Stephen Martin Friday, January 11, 2008

 Once upon a time

a mermaid sweet but all alone

lifted on the tide

and sang a lovely poem.

Although each day her song would shine

no one ever showed.

Patiently behaved

this mermaid in her lonely sea

rolling with the waves

she tried to be at ease.

Although each day her smile was brave

loneliness remained.

How her song carried sweet and clear.

How she still believed that yes someday he would appear.

Love was strong, with confidence and cheer.

When would he show?

"Song upon the breeze

how I wish you’d carry, finally, please

to the man I love

how happy I’ll be then.

Just tell him how I love him so.

Love will bring him in.

Song upon the breeze, bring my lover in."
